If a tree is on a power line, treat every wire as live and stay far away. Move people and pets back at least the length of the fallen span, call 911 if there is fire, arcing, or a line on the ground, and call your electric utility to report.
After a storm, check your trees from the ground before you check anything else up close. Walk the yard looking up and out, not under damaged limbs, and note broken hanging branches, new leans, cracked trunks, and lifted soil around roots.
When a tree falls on your house, your only first job is getting people and pets out safely. If the roof or walls are damaged, if you smell gas, or if wires are down, leave the home and call 911 from outside.
